Unless you want to play with mods in which case Warband is a better choice, with vanilla F&S trumps Warband. It's not well suited for a long campaign. Also in Warband you are likely going to have every faction fighting everyone else, factions being eliminated quickly on their own, and lords disappearing over time. In Warband heroes level up so fast that your main MC is forced not to take any party skills and only focus on charisma or combat regardless of how you play. It's just less tedious overall, and armies are more unique as you can only recruit non-mercs from the nation that you belong to. People often confuse Warband with its mods. The key point is that contrary to what many people claim, F&S is better balanced and more well-thought out, no argument there. I wrote this a few posts down: why I think F&S is better than Warband. Most prefer Warband, but I recommend F&S.
